January 6 — Judge Belvin Perry sanctions Casey Anthony's defense attorney, Jose Baez, $583.73 in prosecutor's attorney's fees for a "willful violation" of an earlier court order in which he was ordered to turn over expert witness discovery information to prosecutors.
"Mr. Baez shall have five days to contest the amount; otherwise, this order will become final and Mr. Baez shall deliver the check, made payable to the 'State of Florida' to Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton within seven days," Perry said.

February 7 — Judge Belvin Perry grants a motion filed by Casey Anthony's defense attorney, Jose Baez, extending the amount of time he has to turn over defense expert reports to prosecutors.
February 10 — Casey's Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, files a number of motions regarding aspects they would like kept from the jury, including her alleged history of stealing, her supposed sexual liaisons, and statements regarding the smell of human decomposition that was allegedly found in the car she was allegedly driving.
"The State of Florida has gone to extreme measures to try to prove that a decomposing body was the source of the smell in the trunk of the Pontiac Sunfire," reads the motion.
The smell was first brought up by Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, when she called 911 on July 15, 2008, to report her granddaughter, two-year-old Caylee, missing.
"I found out my granddaughter has been taken, she has been missing," Cindy said. "My daughter finally admitted that she's been missing ... There is something wrong. I found my daughter's car today, [and] it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car."

February 15 — Judge Belvin Perry rules that postings Casey Anthony allegedly made to social networking websites prior to her indictment can be presented to a jury by prosecutors. Perry also ruled that only portions of Anthony's sex life will be admissible at trial.
February 16 — Casey Anthony's defense team is asking that several statements she gave to investigators in 2008 be suppressed because she was not read her Miranda rights prior to questioning.
