The Boca Raton Police Department has announced the creation of a profile at the social networking Website MySpace, which they are using to release new details about two recent unsolved slayings in Florida that may be linked to other murders in the area. In addition to their cyber appeal, investigators also met with John Walsh, host of the popular television show America's Most Wanted, who is in town filming a segment about the murders.
On March 23, 2007, the body of Randi Gorenberg, 52, was found dumped at Gov. Lawton Chiles Memorial Park. A witness reported hearing a gunshot and saw Randi being pushed from her sport utility vehicle (SUV) at about 2:00 p.m. Randi's SUV was later found abandoned behind a nearby store. Surveillance footage from the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, approximately five miles from where the murder occurred, shows Randi had been shopping in the hours leading up to her death. Her shoes, cell phone, and miscellaneous items that she had purchased at the mall remain missing.
Nearly nine months later, on December 13, 2007, the bodies of Nancy Bochicchio, 47, and her 7-year-old daughter, Joey, were found just after midnight inside Nancy's SUV, which was parked in a lot at the Town Center Mall. Both victims had been shot to death. Nancy's cell phone was later found in the Overtown section of Miami.
"The suspect(s) used a variety of material to bind and control Joey and Nancy, including duct tape, plastic ties, handcuffs, and goggles," reads the statement posted to the Boca Raton Police Department's MySpace page. "Their hands, feet, and neck were bound to restrict their movement in the vehicle. When they were discovered, the bindings on Nancy's wrists were broken. There is no direct evidence to suggest who broke the bonds or whether Nancy resisted the suspect(s) in any way… Boca Raton investigators are still pursuing hundreds of leads and continue to work with law enforcement partners from around the region and throughout the country."
Investigators are also looking for links in other unsolved cases, particularly the August 7, 2007, kidnapping of a mother and her 2-year-old son from a parking garage at the Town Center Mall and the August 10, 2007, armed robbery of a woman in a Mizner Park parking garage.
"We've not made any assumptions about the links between any of these cases," Police Chief Dan Alexander said at a recent press conference. "Until we can bring you and everyone else direct physical and or forensic evidence that can indicate otherwise, we're not going to make any assumptions about the relatedness between these cases."
