No. 10 - Robin Hood People have long been fascinated by the legend of Robin Hood, an outlaw who lived with his band of "Merry Men" in the forests of medieval England. His policy of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor has had broad appeal over the ages, especially in societies burdened by poverty and injustice. The fact that he is usually portrayed as clever, bold, idealistic and devilishly handsome is also helpful to his image. Whether Robin Hood was a real man or a character born of folk ballads is a matter of much historical debate, but one thing is certain: Robin Hood set the standard by which all other outlaws are judged.
