No. 9 - Skategate II

Skategate II

Skating for gold in the 2002 Olympic Games, Canadians Jamie Salé and David Pelletier delivered a near-flawless performance. But when they lost the gold medal to Russians Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze, the world cried foul. Well, at least the Canadians cried foul.

Following an investigation into the judges' scoring, one of the judges — Maire-Reine La Gougne of France — admitting to being pressured into awarding the gold to the Russian pair. Her vote was discarded, leaving the match a tie. Both teams shared the gold medal, and the controversy resulted in several changes to the judging system.
