AKA "Joe Bananas"; one-time boss of the Bonanno crime family. Said to be one of the inspirations for the character Vito Corleone in The Godfather. Died naturally at age 97.
James Joseph Bulger
AKA "Whitey"; as of 2007 the FBI's second-most-wanted fugitive for charges including murder, racketeering, money laundering and extortion. Believed to be the leader of the Irish-American Winter Hill gang, based in Boston.
Alphonse Gabriel Capone
AKA "Al"; 1920s and '30s Chicago-based gangster responsible for bootlegging during Prohibition, gambling rackets and other profitable schemes. A celebrity figure and legendary gangster, Capone retired after conviction for tax evasion in 1931.
Constantino Paul Castellano
AKA "Paul"; successor to Carlo Gambino as boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. Assassinated by the order of John Gotti in 1985.
Dominick Cirillo
AKA "Quiet Dom"; became acting boss of the Genovese crime family in New York City when boss Vincent "The Chin" Gigante was imprisoned. As of 2008, currently serving a prison sentence and set to be released in August.
Joseph Colombo
AKA "Joe"; one-time boss of the Colombo crime family in New York City. An assassination attempt in 1971 led to Colombo sinking into a coma that lasted seven years, before his eventual death in 1978. The murder was never solved.
Frank Costello
AKA "Prime Minister of the Underworld"; one-time boss of the Luciano crime family. A highly influential figure in organized crime, he died at age 82 in Manhattan, years after his retirement.
