Ten: Sammy "The Bull" GravanoSammy Gravano![]() Sammy Gravano did the unthinkable when he ratted out a fellow member of organized crime. Perhaps best known as the "King Rat," Gravano led to John Gotti’s downfall when he testified against him in 1991. Prior to this, Gravano had served as underboss to Gotti. He earned the position for demonstrating his loyalty to Gotti, through such actions as playing a key role in the murder of boss Paul Castellano. When the FBI charged Gravano for 19 murders, in 1991, he agreed to a reduced sentence in return for his testimony against Gotti. In his autobiography, Gravano claims he testified against Gotti because of the crime boss’s love of publicity and negative comments about Gravano to the FBI. Gravano would serve five years in prison before entering the U.S. Federal Witness Protection Program. In 2002, Gravano clashed with the law again when he was found guilty of participating in a drug trafficking ring in Arizona. He is currently serving a 19-year sentence. |
