Michael BrownOn the night of May 14, 1975, Michael Brown and an accomplice were robbing an office when Richard Sullivan surprised them. Brown shot Sullivan killing him. Brown was convicted for the murder. But by 1983, Brown was eligible for transfer to a minimum-security facility. He started corresponding with a woman named Donna and soon they were married. Brown told Donna that as soon as he had a chance, he was going to escape and they could start a new life together. On December 3, 1984, Brown fulfilled his promise. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation began an intense manhunt for Brown. Brown and Donna were able to set up new identities by marrying multiple times in different states under different aliases. After numerous close calls, the Browns arrived in Dayton, Ohio. Around 1993, they had saved enough money to buy a small mom-and-pop video store that they ran together. They were loved by their customers, which included local law enforcement. Brown was happier than he had ever been in his life. In 1999, Donna was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Before it was too late, she wanted to see her family and her two children who she hadn't seen in fifteen years. Brown couldn't face life on the run without her. Donna drove him to the Oklahoma State Penitentiary where he knew he would be held. He said goodbye to her, walked up to the prison gates with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and $125 in cash.
