Eric "Butterbean" Esch

At 365 pounds Eric Scott Esch — known to the boxing world as "Butterbean" — hit the heavyweight scene in the 90's like a giant wrecking ball, becoming World Super-Heavyweight Champion on April 12, 1997. After a successful stint in professional boxing, he transformed himself into a Mixed Martial Arts fan favorite. His combined professional record so far stands at more than 90 wins and 63 knockouts!

Butterbean has earned a cult following, not only as a fighter, but as a digital video game character and as the guy who kicked Johnny Knoxville's ass in Jackass: The Movie. He also appeared on CMT's Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling TV show.

Yet for all Butterbean's success, he's still a good-ole-boy at heart. And his heart not only belongs to his wife and high school sweetheart, Libby, and their three children, Brandon (25), Caleb (23) Grace (17) and his granddaughter, Ava-Claire (2), but it also belongs to his hometown of Jasper, Alabama.

Butterbean is now focusing his time to giving back to the community that raised him and supported him along the way to success. So, he's hanging up his boxing gloves and replacing them with a badge as the newest Reserve Deputy in the Walker County Sheriff's Department.

Working with his partner, Deputy Sheriff Adam Hadder, a long time friend and experienced officer, the two fight crime and tackle one of the biggest problems plaguing Walker County and the country today… drugs!

Butterbean's big heart shines through when he meets suspected drug dealers and helps to coach them in the right direction by offering advice and being a positive role model. "Drugs are a growing problem in small towns like Jasper," Butterbean says, "If I can help set one person down the right track, than I have helped to keep my hometown a little bit safer for my grandbabies and others. That's all I want to do."
