A man enters a Tacoma, Wash., mall armed with several weapons – handguns, knives and assault rifles. Just as he enters the mall, the gunman calls 911 and says he is going to start killing people. The 911 operator can hear the man open fire inside the mall and dozens of 911 calls are then received from shoppers and employees. More than 100 police arrive on the scene and there is a standoff for more than six hours. Inside the mall, the gunman takes several hostages inside a Sam Goody music store. He calls 911 several times, often putting his hostages on the phone with the operators. The hostages say the man is going to kill them. The police eventually talk the gunman out of the mall when they get his girlfriend to talk with him on the phone. Six people were injured in the melee, but all survived.
