Railroad Killer

Criminal: Angel Maturino Reséndiz

In August 1997 university students Holly Dunn (contributor) and Chris Maier are attacked while taking a short cut home along railway tracks. Maier is bludgeoned to death. Holly is raped, savagely beaten and left for dead. But amazingly she survives and vows to bring her attacker to justice.

By 1999 eight victims had been attacked. They are often sexually assaulted, all murdered and all living near railway lines. The police investigation leads them to Angel Maturino Reséndiz, an itinerant Mexican, who goes under various aliases.

The police realize that the killer is using freight trains to ride from one killing to the next, causing terror across three states.

In June 1999, Reséndiz makes the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Then, the police make a critical break through. They persuade Reséndiz's sister, who is living in the United States, to encourage her brother to turn himself in and, incredibly, he does.

By the time of his arrest he is linked to 9 murders.

The entire country is riveted to the trial that asks is Resendiz crazy or evil? The defence claim their client is insane and not responsible for his actions, while prosecutor Devon Anderson (contributor) says he is a cold, calculating murderer, and he should face the death penalty.

It is a trial that would build to an extraordinary confrontation between the killer and his only surviving victim, Holly Dunn, as she bravely tells the jury every detail of her ordeal and identifies the Railroad Killer.
