Bird was convicted for the 1983 murder of his wife.
 

Thomas Bird is the preacher who was convicted for killing his wife. Darrell Carter, the prosecution's star witness against Bird, is heard here on these recordings. Carter wore a wire as part of a sting operation; as he claimed Bird approached him to be the hit man in a murder-for-hire plot. These tapes were crucial evidence as they feature Bird basically telling Carter what their alibi will be and speaking in thinly veiled code about their plot.
