Case Profile: Anna Nicole Smith

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE

Anna Nicole Smith's Psychological Profile

Enduring tremendous stress brought on by the near simultaneous death of her son, Daniel, and the birth of her daughter, guilt-ridden Anna Nicole Smith's mental and emotional stability wavered. Her family history of dysfunction and her estrangement from those who could potentially support her in times of such monumental tragedy and crisis led to feelings of isolation.

Her high profile, unusual lifestyle and the fame she achieved at such an early age could have potentially led to the feeling that there was nowhere else to go but downhill. Thus, this self-proclaimed Marilyn Monroe junior tragically died at an early age, much like the famous 1950's bombshell she idolized.

Perhaps no one wore their bunny ears quite like Anna Nicole Smith. The pop-culture icon's life seemed to be backwards in nearly every way; she was the poor wife of a billionaire, an overweight model and a satirized television star. It may have been the oxymoronic nature of Smith's life that ultimately led her to a place of infamy laden with tragedy.

What started as the small-town dreams of a girl from Texas who wanted to be the next Marilyn Monroe resulted in a life played out in the confines of a courtroom. From Playboy Bunny to reality television star to grieving mother, Anna Nicole's life was anything but ordinary. While we are left with images of her big, blonde hair, pouty lips and bizarre behavior, the true nature of her life's struggle remains untold.

A Fleeting Childhood

Born Vickie Lynn Hogan on November 28, 1967 in Harris County, Texas, Anna Nicole was raised by her mother, Virgie Mae, after her parents divorced. When sent to live with her aunt in Mexia, Texas, Anna Nicole subsequently dropped out of high school and began work at a Jim's Krispy Chicken Shack. It was here that she met her first husband, 16-year-old Billy Wayne Smith, a cook at the restaurant. The two were married in 1985 when Anna Nicole was just 17 years old. A year later, she gave birth to her first and only son, Daniel Wayne Smith, but the couple split soon after.
