Wicked Attraction

Seven: Gerald and Charlene Gallego

Gerald Gallego

Gerald Gallego

This criminal took the rap when his partner in crime turned witness for the prosecution.

By the time Gerald Gallego met Charlene Williams, he had been arrested at least 23 times, following in a long line of criminals in his family, including his father, the first to receive the death penalty in Mississippi using the gas chamber. Williams, on the other hand, grew up in an upper-class neighborhood with a stable family, her background nearly untainted until she discovered drugs and alcohol in high school and took a turn for the worst. Williams was immediately attracted to Gallego when she met him, and before long she was under his thumb, helping him scout young girls to use as "sex slaves." Pre-dating the similar activities of Daveggio and Michaud, the Gallegos used a van to lure young victims for Gerald’s pleasure before taking their lives.

When the Gallegos were eventually caught, Charlene turned on Gerald and became the star witness for the prosecution with a reduced prison sentence, arguing she had been afraid of Gerald and had no choice but to comply with his plans. Gerald, meanwhile, was tried in both California and Nevada and received the death penalty in both states. Charlene was released from prison in 1997 and is believed to have resumed using her maiden name. Gerald died in a Nevada medical center in 2002 at the age of 56 due to metastasized cancer.
